At the start of the second game, the player is being dropped by ARIO into the Desert Sector's base 2. The base has found no information about the player in its database and so the player has to undergo the identification process, where he can take one of the two options: the first option is that the player names himself and the other lets the base decide which name he gets which would be SMT5014.
In the prequel, the player has to undergo the idenfication process too, where he'll get the name SM5T001, if not naming himself.
- The "5" and the "014" in the name probably stand for the 14th mechmind of the fifth generation, as the name is built in the same way in the prequel. As there is no doubt that protagonist is the same mechmind who was made first, these numbers indicate the order of registration in the Range-4's database. This and the change of format also mean that once the database has been overwritten for some reason.
